Founded on a Philosophy
Patrick Olson had enjoyed many years of success in the college textbook publishing industry but in 1992 set out to create something unique - a publishing company whose main focus was on author service. Patrick had been troubled by many aspects of the textbook business - one-sided contracts, poor product-quality, and overly-expensive often late books. With the creation of Hayden-McNeil Publishing all that would change. Gone were the unfair contracts that so often stripped authors of their power. Hayden-McNeil would create collaborative partnerships with its authors based on a handshake. No other publisher ever dared provide this freedom. It was a principle based on publisher accountability and customer empowerment that remains to this day. That accountability would extend to all aspects of the business. Providing exceptional customer service at every level would become an obsession. Product quality would be impeccable - books made of the highest quality materials at fair, reasonable prices. On-time delivery would be a lasting mantra. Books would never, ever be delivered past the start of classes. These core principles became the foundation for Hayden-McNeil, guiding us through those early start-up years and continuing to direct the company today.
It's more than 15 years later and Patrick's vision is still being realized. We have become the industry leader in publishing course-specific, original work at the college level. From that small start-up company with big values, Hayden-McNeil, now part of a world-class media organization, Macmillan, maintains the core philosophy of author-friendly principles that helped us to set the gold-standard in custom publishing. We are known throughout higher education for the exceptional customer service we provide, our dedication to building successful, long-term relationships with our valued authors, and for the outstanding quality of materials we produce, on-time!
